Editorial Standards

The Obby Times exists to cover obby news with the same care we would want as readers. These standards guide our reporting, reviews, and corrections.

Independence

News coverage is separate from advertising and sponsorship. Sponsors do not review or approve editorial content before publication.

Staff who write sponsored content do not cover the same partner in news pieces without disclosure and editor approval.

Accuracy

We verify claims before publishing when possible; such as patch notes from official sources, world records with VOD or leaderboard links, and event details from organizers.

When we cannot fully verify a rumor, we label it clearly as such.

Sources

We protect confidential sources when anonymity is requested and the information serves the public interest. We push back on sources who demand favorable coverage in exchange for access.

Corrections

When we make a mistake, we:

1. Correct the article promptly
2. Note what changed and when at the top or bottom of the piece
3. Acknowledge significant errors on social channels if the original reached a wide audience

Reviews & opinions

Opinion pieces and reviews are labeled as such. Reviewers disclose gifts, press access, or relationships that could affect judgment.

Conflicts of interest

Staff disclose financial interests, competitive affiliations, or friendships with subjects when relevant. Editors assign stories to avoid direct conflicts.

Diversity of coverage

We aim to cover a range of games, creators, and communities instead of just the loudest games or the biggest names.

Reader engagement

Comments and tips are welcome. We do not tolerate harassment of staff, sources, or other readers.
